Still Have Questions?

GENERAL FAQS

Do I need a referral to see a dietitian?

No referral is needed unless your medical aid or specialist specifically requests one. However, sometimes your doctor will contact me and let me know that they have referred you and may give me some background.

Are consultations available online?

Yes. Online consultations are available via video call for patients anywhere in South Africa and internationally. Once your appointment is booked, I will send you a link to a GoogleMeet.

How long is a consultation?

Initial consultations are usually 60 minutes and follow-up consultations are typically 30–45 minutes.

What happens during the first consultation?

The first consultation includes a comprehensive assessment of your medical history, eating habits, lifestyle, symptoms, medications, supplements, blood results (if available), goals, and any challenges you may be experiencing. This helps to build a full understanding of your health and nutritional needs. If your appointment is in person, an InBody body composition assessment will also be completed to evaluate factors such as muscle mass, body fat percentage, and overall body composition.

MEDICAL AID & PAYMENTS

Are consultations covered by medical aid?

Your consultation may be covered by your medical aid – depending on your medical aid provider, your plan, your cover and available savings/benefits. Many medical aids do allocate for dietitian consultations however this may be limited to a certain number of consults and limited consultation times. If you would like to know what will be covered, please discuss this with me when booking your appointment and I will provide you with more information depending on your diagnosis. Alternatively I will provide you with the information for you to contact your medical aid and discuss with them.

Do you claim directly from medical aid?

Yes, we claim directly from medical aid where possible however if your medical aid does not cover the full claim – you are liable to make this payment to the practice. Should your medical aid pay you directly  (and not the practice) after we have submitted the claim – you are liable to pay this forward to the practice.

What are your consultation rates?

Consultation fees are in line with medical aid rates and will hence depend on your medical aid funder. Please note that the practice uses set tariff codes for different consults such as initial consult, follow-up consults as well as set codes for any applications made on your behalf to the medical aid.
